Journalist Brian Harmon launches GreaterSayville.com with Greater L.I. Media

|

Former New York Daily News assistant metro editor and New York State Press Association Writer of the Year (2009), Brian Harmon, has just launched GreaterSayville.com as the editor and co-publisher.

The site went live on Friday, May 24, and it’s already packed with news and feature stories from Sayville and the surrounding areas.

The site covers Sayville, West Sayville, Oakdale, Bohemia and Bayport.

In more than 20 years as a journalist, Harmon has also covered education for The Detroit News, and appeared on CBS’ “60 Minutes” for his investigative work.

“There are so many great stories to share in Sayville and its neighboring communities. At GreaterSayville.com, the emphasis will remain on features and community news,” said Harmon, whose first reporting job after college was covering Sayville and the surrounding communities for Record Newspapers’ The Record South.

Harmon, who played football at Buffalo State College, grew up in Patchogue and played youth football in Sayville.

The new GreaterSayville is run in partnership with Greater Long Island Media Group, which also publishes or co-publishes GreaterPatchogue, GreaterBayShore, GreaterBabylon, GreaterPortJeff and GreaterMoriches. Click here for access to them all.

Together, the sites now span the South Shore contiguously from Amityville to Eastport, with GreaterPortJeff covering Stony Brook to Rocky Point on the North Shore.

“The team couldn’t be any more excited to have such an accomplished journalist and storyteller in Brian Harmon, creating content and getting to know these communities,” said Michael White, founder of Greater Long Island Media Group. “Brian is going to do such great things and be such a help to so many people.”

The company is also getting set to launch its first-ever app for Apple iPhones, which will be available for free in the App Store on smartphones and tablets.

The app — search for Greater Long Island — will allow readers to receive push notifications to their phones whenever stories are published to their specific coverage area of choice.
