MoMo’s raises over $43,000 in Bayport to help fight childhood cancer

|

The final tally is in, and the crew at MoMO’s sports bar in Holbrook and MoMo’s Too in Bayport just raised a whopping $43,332 to help fight childhood cancer through its St. Baldrick’s event last Saturday.

“Our goal was $20,000,” said MoMo’s owner Rich Comunale.

Doubling that goal was accomplished through a staff of about 20 people who raised money online in the run-up to the head-shaving day in Bayport.

Comunale said they were up to $30,000 going into the event, then raised an additional $10,000 the day-of.

The St. Baldrick’s fundraiser even caught the attention of News 12 Long Island.

As with any St. Baldrick’s day event, people collected fundraising pledges to shave their heads.

“It’s just hair,” Chris Baldy of Holtsville told Channel 12. “I did my eyebrows too for an extra 20 bucks.”

Nearly 50 people had their heads shaved that day.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my team and couldn’t do it without our community,” Comunale told GreaterPatchogue.

“It really is great seeing everyone come together to reach the same goal.”

Long Island Strong of Sayville also showed up and sold clothes, donating $5 for every piece of clothing sold, for a total of $430. Another $80 came from a related product, Loyal to the Soil beer by Lithology Brewing of Farmingdale, which donated $1 per pint.

The final tally was first reported as $42,332, but later got a boost of $1,000 from neighboring divorce lawyer John Toresco, who donated his March Madness pool winnings.
